Comfort Quilts
A comfort quilt can be an ideal practice piece when learning the craft or trying a new pattern. Come and give it a try at Studio C, or take material home on which to work.
The Etobicoke Quilters’ Guild members are proud of its long-standing “Comfort Quilt” program which began in 1989 to create unique and beautiful quilts to be donated to charities. Each year we distribute quilts to Shelters, Residential Care facilities, support organisations and Hospitals as well as individuals.
Check out some of the sizes requested by various organizations.
You can get involved by volunteering your time to work on Comfort Quilts during Mondays and Wednesdays at Studio C in Neilson Park Creative Centre or in your own sewing space:
All offers of assistance are helpful, at any stage of creation including:
- Selecting fabrics in the Studio or from your personal stash
- Piecing a quilt top – from fabrics in the studio or your personal stash
- Piecing backing
- Layering quilts – batting provided by the guild
- Quilting – by machine or by hand
- Binding – by machine or by hand.
Are your cupboards overflowing? We are always happy to receive donations of 100% cotton fabric and sewing thread.
