Free Motion Quilting for the Timid – Heather Black
April 14, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm$40 - $50
Heather is a member of the Mississauga Quilter’s guild, an avid free motion quilter and great teacher.
Free Motion machine quilting can add texture, design and interest to your quilt.
This course will provide a breakdown of the steps involved, methods for success, and useful tips to develop your skills. I will include a variety of machine quilting techniques that use both a walking and a quilting/darning foot. I will demonstrate a variety of quilting techniques including, straight stitching, stippling, free motion flowers, loops, hearts, meandering, feathers etc. and using a quilting template. You will have ample time to practice these skills and techniques.
In addition I will discuss the use of needles, threads, batting and cleaning your machine in order to provide an opportunity for frustration free quilting.
Since this is a hands on session, we will be working on 16-18” quilt sandwiches, which when completed, will serve for future reference of these techniques. These sandwiches should be a plain fabric to allow you to see the stitching. If you have a project which is ready for quilting, please bring it along so that I can help you with design considerations. — All skill levels.
