Hello folks, Quilting Instructor, Peter Byrne here! Wanting to forward information to you for our upcoming online Virtual, Hover-quilting Inspiration Workshops!
But first, allow me to introduce myself! For those who haven’t met me, my name is Peter Byrne.
I am an international award-winning, published modern quilter and teacher with a deep passion for innovation and design.
My strength is maintaining a fresh approach to quilting, with original designs and technical mastery. My goal is innovation, my passion is creativity and I am thrilled to have opportunities to share new techniques within the quilting community.
While attending QuiltCon 2020, the largest Modern Quilt Show in the world, my quilt titled ‘Starring You’ won Best in Show and my quilt titled ‘Cityscape” won Best Machine Quilting Frameless.
I started making quilts in 2009 and to further my quilting experience, in January of 2017, I joined the Toronto Modern Quilting Guild. I’m very excited to share my passion for quilting and look forward to interacting and teaching you online!
My Hover-quilt titled “Pathways” was showcased in The Appliqué Gallery in Curated Quilts 11th issue!
The whole group will meet via Zoom at 10 each day for half an hour for introductory comments and discussion. Then the written instructions, pictures, and demos will be available on Instagram. Participants can contact Peter via Instagram through the hours of the workshop to ask questions as they work. The group will meet again each day at about 2:30 via zoom for time to talk with Peter and each other about the day’s work.
Workshop fee: $50 for EQG members, $60 non-members
Kit required – fee is $35 (colours will be different from those shown.)
To register or ask questions, please email Jan or Claudia at email@example.com and put “Peter’s workshop” in the subject line.
Class Description: Hover-quilting is a new form of raw edge appliqué, absent of fusible web. This innovative technique produces not only a beautiful controlled frayed edge, but also creates the illusion of Half Square Triangles hovering above the black background.
In this class students will move colour like never before. Using HST’s in a new way to create several design elements such as ‘Cathedral Window’, ‘Pathways’, ‘Lattice Work”, and a ‘School of Fabric’.
To get started, students will focus on preparing their quilt sandwich and make 36 HST’s and will move on to complete a 15-inch square mini hover-quilt similar to the one pictured above. Students will learn the unique design elements that make this technique so versatile and creative. Kits are available for only $35 Canadian.
After signing up, and prior to the workshop, I will support you with a suggested supply list, and a Workshop Handbook! I’m here for you every step of the way!
