April 14 at 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
Sunday April 14, 2019 – 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Neilson Park Creative Centre, 56 Neilson Drive, Etobicoke.
Fee: Guild Member $50/ Non-member $60
Carol Mason has taught art for 30 years and quilting for 13 years. She is passionate about applying the principles and techniques from her art background to her own quilting and to teach others to do this too. In this workshop, she will teach the techniques of paper piecing, and will also discuss the use of colour and pattern in selecting fabrics. For this class, she designed an entrancing pattern for a pillow top that consists of 6 identical pieces. She will demonstrate the techniques needed, then guide participants through the process of constructing their own first pieces. During the class, participants will likely have time to complete 2 or 3 more of the 6 identical pieces, and Carol will demonstrate how these are to be joined together. Participants will leave the class with the know-how to complete the remaining pieces and construct their own pillow covers at home. For those who are so inclined, multiple blocks could be made to produce a spectacular quilt!
Participants will need:
– 8 fabrics, including 6 fat quarters and 2 half yards. Instructions will be sent to participants before class to guide their choice of fabrics and to tell them precisely how to precut the fabrics before class.
– Iron and mat for ironing – at least 1 for every 2 participants
– Cutting mat and rotary cutter
– 6” Add-A-Quarter ruler
– Template plastic
– Glue pen
– Thread in a colour that will sink into the fabric chosen
– Sewing machine
Please note that the program will be confirmed when we have sufficient minimum enrolment so purchase your fabrics accordingly.
